Jane Seymour and Stephen Farber at our sold-out screening of Somewhere in Time
February 17 at 7 PM: SHAFT (1971), the movie that launched the Blaxploitation cycle of hit movies of the 70s, also reinvented the urban crime thriller. Richard Roundtree plays John Shaft, the cool private eye who knows the score in the big bad city. Celebrated photographer Gordon Parks had his first big hit as director. But perhaps most influential was the score by Isaac Hayes. He shattered Oscar precedents when his “Theme from Shaft” was named the year’s best song. Film music historian Jon Burlingame will join to discuss the movie.
